How To Install OpenVas On Kali Linux 2017

OPENVAS is best and Free… You mean FREE and BEST…

OpenVAS is a framework of several services and tools offering a comprehensive and powerful vulnerability scanning and vulnerability management solution. The framework is part of Greenbone Networks‘ commercial vulnerability management solution from which developments are contributed to the Open Source community since 2009.

Ok… that’s enough… Please do the below steps exactly the way I mention here otherwise you will suck.

Step 1:

Download the latest Kali Linux Version VM image from the below link ( you will get a virtual slap if you download from anywhere else) :

Architecture VMWARE VIRTUAL BOX

Step 2:

Unzip the downloaded file and open the file in VMware/virtual box. I will not tell you how. There are plenty of useful videos in YouTube. Check out the below links:

Step 3:

Login to the machine with the root credentials and run the below commands in sequential order and press enter . It will take some time depending on your network speed. However Guest OS has half the network speed of Host OS.

Please hold on tight..

Now to check whether the installation was successful or not run the below command to check the output.

If you see the below string in the output… that means everything is OK.

Let’s start openvas services. Type the below commands in exact sequential order mentioned below.

When we start the services, it listens on two ports 9392(web interface) and 9390 (manager) . To check run the below command.

But it is listening on localhost 127.0.0.1 . To fix this , run the below command

# sed -e ‘s/127.0.0.1/0.0.0.0/g’ greenbone-security-assistant.service openvas-manager.service openvas-scanner.service  -i

#systemctl daemon-reload

#systemctl restart greenbone-security-assistant.service openvas-manager.service openvas-scanner.service

Now create a user with Admin rights using the below command

Moment of Truth:

Get the relevant IP address kali Linux machine, open any browser  type this in URL  https://ipadress:9392 and provide the login credentials created earlier.

That’s it. If you are smart enough , you will be able to configure your target ,policies and run your own scan.

Hints:

Now you should be feeling more like this guy
